A funeral service to celebrate the life of Louise Atkerson Cockrell, 90, of Lugoff, SC, will be held at 2 p.m. today, December 18, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Michael Cockrell and Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Cockrell will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Mrs. Cockrell died Saturday, December 15, 2018. She was born in West Columbia, the daughter of the late Rev. John D. and Iva Wise Atkerson. She retired from Kershaw Memorial Hospital. Louise was happiest when cooking for her family.

Surviving Louise are her daughter, Candice C. Little (Ed) of Camden; sons, Rev. Dr. Michael Cockrell (Bea) of Columbia, Thomas D. Cockrell (Ruth) of Camden, Andy C. Cockrell (Arlene) of Lugoff, and Rev. Dr. Jeffrey D. Cockrell (Lisa) of Florence; sisters, Sandra Jackson (Charles) of Camden, Karen Leadingham (Cisco) of Camden, and Cheryl Watkins (Gary) of Columbia; brother, Rev. S. DeWitt Atkerson (Helen) of Blythewood; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Jeanie Ruth Lovette and Miriam Moore; brothers, Marion Atkerson, Johnny Atkerson, and Rev. James Atkerson; and grandson, Patrick J. Cockrell.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
