Mrs. Lucy Morton, 54, of Lancaster, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.

Born November 14, 1955 in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of Jack Shelton Graybill and Susan McElveen Graybill.

Mrs. Morton received her undergraduate degree in Christian Education from Presbyterian College and two Masters Degrees from The University of South Carolina in Education and Speech Language Pathology. She was employed as a speech therapist at Clinton Elementary School in Lancaster.  Mrs. Morton was a member of the Literary Review Club, and was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster where she sang in the adult choir, and was a member of the hand bell choir.

She was the former director of the church’s Vacation Bible School program, and taught Sunday School for many years.  She served on numerous committees, including the Pulpit Nominating Committee and the Christian Education Committee and served on the board of the Child Development Pre-School Program.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband James T. Morton; daughters, Sarah E. Morton of Charleston, and Lucy K. Morton of Lancaster; sisters, Susan Hodges of Columbia, Margaret Strickland of Mt. Pleasant, and Elizabeth Suber of Columbia. Numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. R. Shane Owens and The Reverend Dr. Charles D. Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family received friends on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the family home, 530 Briarwood Road in Lancaster.
