Mary Truesdell

Mrs. Mary Ethel Melton Truesdell, of Bethune, died June 3, 2011, at Mountain View Community Living Center in Clayton, GA. A daughter of the late Ervin Toland and Ethel Thomas Melton, Mrs. Truesdell was born April 22, 1914, in Wagram, NC. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest Zachary Truesdell, Jr., and her brother, Ervin Toland Melton, Jr.

Spending her early life in Bennettsville, SC, Mrs. Truesdell moved to Bethune, SC, where for many years she was a mainstay at Truesdell Drug Store. Upon its closure she assisted the teachers at Midway Elementary School until her retirement. This love of children had earlier led her to teach countless young ones in Sunday School classes at Bethune Presbyterian Church. Her warmth and zeal for life endeared her to them and to the entire community. In her latter years she resided in Clayton where she enjoyed the fellowship of the Fidelis Sunday School Class at Clayton Baptist Church and various volunteer activities as long as her health permitted.

Surviving her are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ervin T. Melton, Jr., of Clayton and Mrs. Fred A. Brinson of Bethune, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will he held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, at Bethune Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be her nephew, the Reverend Charles E. Seastrunk, Jr., and Dr. Guy Oliver.
