Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Ritter Smith, 95, who died peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2017, were held Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Ashwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Atkinson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Bobby Lee Smith assisted at the graveside. The family receive dfriends following the service. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home is serving the family.  Memorials may be made to The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.  

Born in Patrick, SC, he was the fourth of six children of the late William R. Smith and Thelma Scott Smith.  He was a Deacon of Ashwood Baptist Church and a member of the Woodmen of the World.  He retired from DuPont after 33 years of service as a Tech Lab Technician.  He served his country during WWII in the United States Army, serving in Italy, Sicily, Africa, and Germany.  He was an avid camper who loved to fish and hunt.

He is survived by his son, Bobby Lee (Nancy) Smith of Lugoff, SC, Don (Donna R. Kea-Smith) Smith of Camden, SC; daughter, Annette S. (Steve) Blankenship of Olanta, SC; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.
