Michael S. Becker of Camden, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his home. Born in Connecticut, April 4, 1938, he was the son of the late James S. Becker Sr., and Mildred Smith Becker. Michael grew up in Camden, SC, attended college from 1957 to 1974 studying Physics at Duke University, receiving a B.S. and Ph.D in Physics from the University of Florida and studying accounting at Pace University. He was a member of the American Physical Society, Sigma Xi (Physics Society) and the Mathematical Association on America. He was published as a Mathematician in several periodicals: "The Mathematical Monthly", "The Fibonacci Quarterly" and "The College Math Journal". Michael was a loved professor at USC Sumter from 1978 – 2009 and a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University. His two largest passions in life were golfing and reading. Mike will never be forgotten on the greens of Camden Country Club.

Michael is survived by his brother, James S. Becker Jr., his two nieces, Maurene Becker Streeter, Maud Becker Bailey, and nephew, James S. Becker III.

A "warm memories" gathering will be held at Camden Country Club on August 27, 2012 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made at Camden Country Club, 111 Knights Hill Rd., Camden, SC 29020 or USC Sumter Division of Science, Math and Engineering Science Equipment Fund, USC Sumter; Sumter Partnership, 200 Miller Rd., Sumter, SC 21950.
