Mignon Sullivan Polk passed peacefully at her home in Warrenton, VA on Saturday, February 7, 2015.  She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on March 14, 1925 to the late Christina and Manley S. Sullivan, Sr.

Mrs. Polk graduated from the St. Francis Xavier Infirmary of Charleston and spent many years working as a surgical and obstetrician/gynecologist nurse.  As a devoted Episcopalian, she played an active role as a member at St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton.

She was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Mavis X. Polk, CAPT USN (Ret.) who passed in 2001.  She is survived by her four children, Marvis X. Polk, Jr. & wife, Marina of Anderson, SC, Robin C. Polk & wife, Kristie of Morris, IL, Jennifer Jane Polk and husband, Robert Gathright of Goochland, VA and Paul R. Polk & wife, Donna of Berryville, VA; a brother, Manly S. Sullivan & wife, Helene of Gainesville, VA; five grandchildren, Erin, Jessica, Patrick, Zachary & wife, Kate, Dustin and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Polk was preceded in death by a brother, Albert M. Sullivan.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 73 Culpeper Street, Warrenton, VA 20186, 11 am, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 with interment at Warrenton cemetery immediately following.  A reception in the St. James social hall will follow the committal services.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Capital Caring Hospice, 24419 Millstream Dr., Aldie, VA 20105, the Warrenton Volunteer Fire & Rescue, 167 W. Shirley Ave., Warrenton, VA 20186 and/or the Cancer Research Institute, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006.
