Mrs. Golden Jenerette Harrison

Mrs. Golden Jenerette Harrison went to be with her Lord on Nov. 11, 2012.

Golden’s dear husband Joseph C. Harrison, Jr., passed in 1993.

Born in Yauhannah, SC, on Oct.12, 1917, Golden was the second of seven children born to the late Henry and Mary Jenerette. The family moved to Georgetown, SC, where Golden grew up and attended school.

Golden attended South Carolina State University (SCSU) in Orangeburg SC, earning a bachelor’s in English. She taught in Georgetown, SC and Camden, SC public schools for over 37 years. Her post graduate studies include a master’s degree from SCSU in education, as well as extensive studies in English at Howard University.

Golden is survived by her son Joseph C. Harrison, III and his fiancée Trina Barnett of Charlotte, NC; two grand children, Danielle L. Harrison, Nicholas J. Harrison of Columbia SC; a great grandchild, Ka’Mya Harrison of Columbia SC; sister Celestine J. Slaughter and her husband Theodore of Los Angles California; niece Vera Sherald and her husband John of Georgetown, SC.

This beloved daughter, sister, mother and friend was a charter member of Iota Omega Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of Camden, SC, eventually serving as Basileus. She also served as a Deacon at Camden Second Presbyterian Church, USA.

Family and friends will gather at Camden Second Presbyterian Church, 816 Market St., Camden, SC, Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 am until 1 pm, with home going services starting at 2 pm. Committal will follow at Cedars Cemetery of Camden, SC. Floral arrangements and condolences may be sent to 808 Market St. Camden, SC.
