On December 15, 2018 Joseph Murray Smith’s prayer, “take me, Lord, take me, Lord” was answered. He is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior where he can see, walk, and is in no more pain. His family finds comfort in God’s grace.

He was born in Manville, South Carolina on May 5, 1923, (95 years) to Willie David Jeffers Smith and Joseph Murray Smith. He was married to Rosa Virginia Chandler for 75 years. They had nine children: Donna Smyrl (Jimmy), Phyllis Speaks (Joe), Jean Davis (Rusty), Betty Potter (Steve), Martha Schreiber, Janette McCaa (Clint), Joseph Smith (Martha), Johnny Smith (Sharon), Jimmy Smith (Amanda), 24 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and siox great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Ida Lee Caskey, his brother Louis DeLoache Smith, his grandson Roger Jennings Davis and his granddaughter-in-law Sandra Lewis Smyrl.

Visitation will be held today, December 18, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. A service of celebration will follow the visitation at 11 a.m..

Burial services will be held at Beulah Methodist Church, Beulah Church Road, Camden, SC, 29020.

Kornegay Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
