A graveside service to celebrate the life of Neva Louise Shannon "Coota" Montgomery, 101, of Camden, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 11, 2013, at Quaker Cemetery in Camden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the following: Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020, Pinedale Residential Care Center, 798 Hermitage Pond Road, Camden, SC 29020 or Hospice Care of Tri-County, 2039 W. DeKalb Street, #A, Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Montgomery died Saturday, November 9, 2013. She was born in Blackstock, SC, the daughter of the late Robert Edward and Neva Mills Shannon. She graduated from Erskine College, class of 1934 and taught primarily 1st grade for over 40 years, using rhythm band instruments in her instruction and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority. She also coached girls basketball at Midway School. Mrs. Montgomery was an active member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. .

Mrs. Montgomery is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary S. Boyd (Frederick) of Charlotte, NC; Lila S. Hunsucker (Kelly) of Lexington, SC; Dr. Robert E. Shannon (Jenny) of Chester, SC; Rev. James R. Cooke (Elizabeth) of Richmond, VA; Marion Shannon Pressley of Fountain Inn, SC; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Montgomery was predeceased by her husband, James Douglas Montgomery; sisters, Marion Shannon Stevenson and Demmie Shannon Cooke; and brother, Robert Edward Shannon.

The family would like to thank Phillip Hudson and the staff of Pinedale Residential Care Center and Hospice Care of Tri-County for their outstanding care of "Coota."
