Nicholas Eugene Stallworth Scarborough, Sr. of Camden died at home on Friday, March 23, 2012 after a prolonged illness. A service for Mr. Scarborough will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Camden, on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. Rev. Charles Davis Sr. will officiate. A reception will follow at the family home. Interment will be private.
Born in Columbia, S.C. on January 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Claude Mood Scarborough Sr. and Gelene Armor Stallworth Scarborough. He graduated from Dreher High School and attended Davidson College. He graduated from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a former banker and later self-employed as a real estate investor. During his lifetime, he was active in many civic and social organizations and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Camden. He loved to sing and enjoyed golf and baseball.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Paula Pannell Scarborough; his brother, Claude Mood Scarborough Jr. (Sarah) of Columbia; sons, N. Eugene Stallworth Scarborough Jr. of Santee, Mikell Ross Scarborough (Mary) and William Lucas Scarborough, both of Charleston; grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas Scarborough of Chattanooga, Ross Elizabeth and Thomas Scarborough of Charleston; his mother in law, Annette M. Pannell of Thomson, GA; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in law, Richard Allen Pannell, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
