A funeral service to celebrate the life of Olga "Sandy" Lanoway McCurdy, 87, of Camden, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 29, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery in Camden. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. McClurdy to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. McCurdy, widow of Dr. William B. McCurdy, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Atria Forest Lake in Columbia, SC. She was born in Columbia, SC on December 17, 1925 when it truly was a small town. She was the daughter of the late Emil and Annie Lanoway, and was a First Generation American, as her parents immigrated in the early 1900’s from the Ukraine.

Mrs. McCurdy graduated from Columbia High School in 1942 and attended the University of South Carolina. She worked for the South Carolina State Tax Commission until she married in 1952. The couple resided in Camden for over 40 years, where they raised their four children. Sandy participated in a number of civic, charitable, social and religious organizations. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Camden. Sandy moved to Columbia in the late 90’s and was a resident of the Atria at Forest Lake until the time of her death.

Mrs. McCurdy is survived by daughters, Nancy M. Stevenson (Bill) of Hopkins, SC, and Emily Loretta McCurdy (Joseph Denneny) of Charlotte, NC; sons, William B. McCurdy, III of Charleston, SC, and Robert L. McCurdy (Debbie) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer, Clay and Kimberly; great-granddaughter, Alexandra; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. McCurdy was predeceased by her brothers, Walter and Emil.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
