Funeral services to celebrate the life of Phyllis McLain Mathis, 79, of Camden, were held Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Burial followed in Quaker Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Hancock officiating. The family received friends Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Mathis’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Mathis died Thursday, March 31, 2011. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late John McLain and Lena Smith McLain. She was a retired secretary from DuPont.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie “Buck” Mathis; sons, Richard C. Mathis and his wife Jeannette of Columbia and Terry Mathis of Camden; grandsons, Jeff Mathis and Joseph Mathis; great grandchildren, Grace Mathis and Charles “Buck” Mathis; sisters, Jean Fowler Thompson and her husband Foy, of Camden, Margaret Branham and her husband Robert of Camden and Myrtle Lemire of Lugoff. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Thompson and brothers, jack and Bob McLain.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
