Mr. McKenzie departed Earth Sunday, August 14, 2011. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Issac Oliver McKenzie and Ada Boyt McKenzie. He was a decorated United States Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a participant in the D-Day Invasion and was presented two Purple Hearts for his service. Mr. McKenzie was a 33° Scottish Rite Freemason. He was also a great story teller and his tales of his early days and military exploits would keep you waiting with anticipation for the next story. One of those stories was how he received his nickname Governor. He was in a foxhole in France and occupying the next foxhole over was a Limey (as he called them), an "Englishman" that called him Governor throughout their entrenchment. Late when he told his friends about the experience they began to call him Governor as well-hence, with most friends he was simply known as Governor or "Gov".

He retired after 55 years service with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, most as Superintendent. Mr. McKenzie was a member of Bethel Worship Center.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Suzanne Miller McKenzie; daughters, Barbara McKenzie Lyles (Glenn) of Camden, Linda McKenzie Brown of Camden and Robin McKenzie Eddings (Kent) of Camden; grandchildren, Jason Lyles (Barbara), Jared Bartley Brown (Priscilla), Brittany Marie Brown, Robert Eddings, Devin Eddings; great grandchildren, Ashley Raley (Cody), Katlyn Lyles, Logan Brown, Trenton Brown and Landon Hinson and brother, Pete McKenzie of Escanaba, MI. He was predeceased by his brothers, Harvey, I.J., Hosé, Coley, Sr. and Billy and his sisters, Sybil and Betty. The family would also like to recognize a special friend, Mary Russell.
