Graveside inurnment services for Roderick Hill "Rod" Cantey, Jr., 67,of Camden, will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Quaker Cemetery, Camden, South Carolina. Rev. Phillip Whitehead will officiate.

Mr. Cantey, a resident of Marietta, Georgia and Camden, South Carolina died Monday, February 20, 2012 in Camden. He was the son of the late Barbara Zemp Cantey and Roderick Hill Cantey and grew up in Camden. He attended Camden schools and the Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina where he graduated in 1964. He received his BS from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Later he did graduate work at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

A decorated Captain in the United States Army, he was a helicopter pilot who completed two COMBAT tours of duty in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Army Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star among others.

A retired banker, he began his career at Citizens and Southern Bank in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an officer of several other banks including the Merchant Bank, First Georgia Bank, Georgia Banking Company and was the first President of The Buckhead Bank. In addition, he was the President of Bay Financial Services, Inc. in Marietta, Georgia.

An avid hunter, Mr. Cantey was a member of the Boykin Hunt Club in Boykin, South Carolina and the Goldmine Hunting Club in Camden, South Carolina. He was previously a member of Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta.

Rod is survived by his wife, Janice Cantey; son, Roderick Hill Cantey, III of Marietta, GA; sisters, Barbara Z. Cantey ( Ray Mushal), Mary Cantey Dunn (Henry), and Claudia Cantey Bell (Paul); nieces and nephews, Amanda Mushal, David Mushal (Annie), Mary Margaret Dunn, Blakeney Bell (Boris Samarov) and Sarah Bell and great nephew, Henry Mushal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Camden Archives, 1314 Broad Street, Camden, South Carolina 29020 or to a charity of your choice.
