Ronald O'Bryon Armstrong

Ronald O'Bryon Armstrong, 73, passed away on November 15, 2010, in Raleigh NC.

He was born in New Castle, England, in 1937, and came to this country in l964 to further his career as a steeplechase jockey. He rode for trainers Burley Cocks, Charlie Cushman, Ronnie Houghton and Bobby Davis, just to name a few. He retired from his riding career in l972 and in l978 began training, primarily for Alfred H. Smith Jr.  In l997, he left racing to retire to New Bern and Atlantic Beach NC where he pursued his love of sailing.

Ronnie is survived by his two daughters, Page Armstrong Doyle of Clayton NC and Cary Randolph Armstrong of Herndon VA, a sister, Audrey of Sunbury, Australia and four grandchildren.
