Rose Arline Beebe, 89, peacefully journeyed home September 8, 2012 at Legacy Heights Memory Care in Charlotte, NC. Born in Oto, Iowa in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Kizzie Petersen and Lee Dolan.
Rose’s mission in life was to love, nurture and protect her beloved children and grandchildren and she succeeded on every level. Until Rose was 79, she owned and operated Beebe Beverage liquor store in Bethune, SC where she resided in a tiny, pink house with her spoiled Chihuahua, Boozy, and temperamental cat, Buzzaboo. "Miss Rose," as she was known, was a local icon and friend to all - generous, caring and cordial. Finding joy and laughter in the simplest of things, she continually demonstrated the art of living to all who knew and loved her.
Rose was an Alzheimer’s warrior and the subject of an ongoing newspaper column called "Generations" written by her daughter, Lisa, which has run in the South Charlotte News section of the Charlotte Observer for nearly two years. Through anecdotes depicting her humor, love and courage in the face of dementia, she captured the hearts of thousands of faithful readers.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Warren Beebe, Sr. She is survived by her daughters: Sandra DuBois of McBee, SC, and Lisa Moore of Charlotte, NC; her sons Warren Beebe, Jr. of Camden, SC and his wife, Julie and Tim Beebe of Bethune, SC; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Instead of a solemn funeral service Rose requested a celebratory gathering be held to remember the good times. Her family will exceed her expectations with a raucous party that will have her smiling in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Respite: A Center for Grief and Hope (TheRespite.org) where an Alzheimer’s support group was established in Rose’s honor. Her family thanks Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte and the staff of Legacy Heights for their love and dedication.
