A funeral service for Roy Dale Newman, 78, of Bethune, was held at 4:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, January 5, in the sanctuary of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Jefferson. Burial  followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Newman died Monday, January 2. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late William Charlie and Nannie McCaskill Newman. He retired from Dupont Co. after 32 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He also was a former EMT with the Mt. Pisgah-Buffalo Rescue Squad. Mr. Newman served in the United Air Force. 

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Barbara Joyner Newman of the home; a son, Dr. Roy Dale Newman, II and his wife Tiffany of Hartsville; a daughter, Allison Newman of Camden; 2 grandchildren, Adriana and Braeden ; his siblings, Elaine Hartis, William C. “Bill” Newman and his wife Cora Lee, James D. Newman, Grady Newman and his wife Myrtis, Nelson Newman and his wife Linda and Helen Catoe and her husband Glenn Reed all of Bethune. He was preceded in death by siblings, Cecil Gerald “Buster” Newman, Sara Lee Anderson, Heyward Newman, Boyd Newman, Susie Mae McGee and Alma Hilton.
