Ruby Mae Godfrey, 91, of Elgin, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Born August 13, 1926 in Wolf Pit, NC near Rockingham, she was a daughter of the late James David Goodwin and Esther May Long Goodwin. Ruby worked as an accounting clerk at the US Army Post Exchange at Fort Jackson, and later at Owens Steel. She was a former member of The Order of The Eastern Star in Columbia, and worked with the Lexington County Guardian ad Litem Program.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Vause (Nancy) of Colombia, South America, Jim Vause (Mary Kay) of Orchard Park, NY, Phillip Vause (Carol) of Pelion, and David Vause (Anita) of Elgin; grandchildren, Nicholas Vause (Bethany), Mallory Vause (Mason) Elliott, Michael Vause (Kathryn), Amanda Vause, Amy Vause Grice (Edward), David Vause (Angie), Jennifer Vause Hall (Jason), and Megan Vause; as well as many great-granchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bruce Godfrey; sister, Ava Hobbs (Ronald); and a grandson, Joey Vause.

A graveside service will be held 11 o’clock, today, September 22, 2017, at Florence National Cemetery, 803 E National Cemetery Road, Florence. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Thursday at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.
