Funeral services honoring the life of Rufus Henry Brown, 92, of Columbia, formerly of Camden, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Quaker Cemetery in Camden with military honors and Masonic rites. Reverend Roy Arnold will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carl Truesdale, Gordon Cartrette, Jim Wise, Johnnie Morris and Floyd Goff. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Kershaw Lodge #29, Ken Shuford, Jerry Watson and Charlie Corley. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Memorials may be made in Mr. Brown’s memory to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, 4205 Kilbourne Rd., Columbia, SC 29209 or a charity of one’s choice. .

Mr. Brown died Friday, November 18, 2011. Born in Eastover, he was the son of the late Clarence Earl and Charlotte Campbell Brown. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Camden High School and attended Newberry College. He served as Chief Petty Officer in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Brown was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and former chairman of the Deacons at First Baptist Church in Camden. He was an active member of Kershaw Lodge #29 since 1949 where he held numerous positions.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Nettie Leese Ogburn Brown; daughters: Joyce Bennett (Dan) of Baytown, TX, Jean Branham (Buddy) of Eastover, Jane Rich of Columbia; grandchildren: J. J. Bennett Connolly and Christopher Rich; great-granddaughter: Caitlin Connolly; step-grandchildren: Steven Bennett, Meredith Kammerer, Billy Branham; step-great grandchildren: Stephen, Daniel, Destiny, Hallel and Nathan Kammerer; sister, Ann Cimino of Coral Gables, FL. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth and brothers, Ted, Clyde, Fred and Carl Brown.
