A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mary Ruth Mitchell Wobecky, 93, of Camden, will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, December 18, 2014 in Quaker Cemetery. Father Paul Brenninkmeijer will officiate. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Wobecky’s memory to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Mary Ruth Wobecky, widow of Francis Wobecky, died Monday, December 15, 2014. She was born in New Bedford, MA, the only child of the late Charles Mitchell and Mae Mitchell.
Mrs. Wobecky is survived by her son, Mark Wobecky of Camden; daughters, Christine White (Robert) of Rock Hill, SC and Mary Jane Smith (Randy) of Woodstock, GA; grandchildren, Robert J. White, Jr. (Joie), Steven and Kimberly Wobecky, Wade and Skyler Smith. Also, an AFS exchange student daughter since 1978, Rosemary Almeida (Mike Martin) and her son Sergio Florencio.
Mrs. Wobecky met the love of her life, Bud Wobecky, in kindergarten and they were happily married for 66 years before his death. She and Bud moved to Camden in 1956 and have been members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church since that time. She was a consummate volunteer, donated blood, was a Sunday school teacher, a room mother, a CamBand Booster mom, secretary of the Golden K, Toastmasters, and many other organizations. The ultimate volunteering experience was hosting Rosemary Almeida as a Brazilian exchange student, who is still a member of her family to this day. She enjoyed family time, playing the piano, reading, and her soaps. She always enjoyed traveling and a beach trip was her favorite.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
