A funeral service to honor the life of Samuel Eugene "Sam" Hester, 87, of Camden, SC and Nashville, TN, was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 27, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Burial followed in Nashville, TN. Rev. David Weaver and Rev. Steve Patterson officiated. The family received friends following the service at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Family Life Center. Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Sam, husband of Peggy Brinkley Hester, died Thursday, June 23, 2016. He was born in Old Hickory, TN, the son of the late John "J.T." Hester, Sr. and Rachel Shockney Hester. Sam joined the US Navy at age 17 and served as Electronic Technician in WWII. In 1952 he was a Cum Laude graduate in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. In 1952, he and Peggy were married and he soon joined DuPont and served 42 years with the corporation. His career took him and his family to many locations, including Camden, SC, Waynesboro, VA, Nashville, TN, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, leaving good friends in all of these locations. Sam then retired in Camden. Over the years, he volunteered for many church and civic organizations and was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. He also served as Vice President of the Instrument Society of America (ISA) and President of the local chapter in Tennessee. Sam loved traveling and especially loved playing golf.

Sam is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy; daughter, Terry Lane Pewitt and son-in-law, Jim Pewitt of Franklin, TN; sons, Donald Hester and Anthony Hester, both of Nashville, TN; and his devoted companion "Kitty-Pooh".

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
