Shirley Anne Hilton Baird went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. She was born November 15, 1934, in Liberty Hill SC, the daughter of the late James Abram Hilton and Maggie Mae (Hilliard) Hilton. She was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Florence.

She graduated from Camden High School in Camden SC in 1953, and from Columbia College in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Science. She was a Dean’s List student and a member of several honorary and scholastic societies. She received many awards for her achievements and served as Editor of the college newspaper, the Post Script, for 2 years. She later completed graduate studies at Winthrop College, Francis Marion College and the University of South Carolina.

She served as a home economist for Clemson Extension in Sumter, and also taught in Sumter, Florence and Camden public schools. Later, she was a nutritionist for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, and was a disability examiner for Vocational Rehabilitation and the Social Security Administration.

Surviving is her son, Colonel (Ret.) James Christopher Baird and his wife Jennifer, and their son James Bryan Baird, of Niceville, FL; her sister Betty Sue Hilton Small (Aaron) of Columbia, a niece Michelle Small of Columbia, and nephew Stuart Small and his wife Tiffany and two daughters, Lila and Sadie Belle Small of Mount Pleasant, SC. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Chip Baird.

A graveside funeral service will be at Quaker Cemetery in Camden SC on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence.
