Funeral services to celebrate the life of Spencer Carmichael, Jr., 82, of Camden, SC, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Pastor Tommy Bowers and Pastor Dan Bausum will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM. Spencer Carmichael, Jr., husband of Zena Johnson Carmichael, died May 29, 2013. He was born in Murrels Inlet, SC, the son of the late Rev. Kayton Spencer Carmichael and Annie Ruby Gaddy Carmichael. Spencer was a US Army Veteran and retired after 32 years from DuPont. He was a member of Camden Christian Fellowship where he served as an Elder for 34 years and was currently an active member of The Cross & The Sword Church. Spencer was a longtime member and caller for the Camden Highsteppers, loved Country & Western and Gospel Music, and spent his retirement years as a local handyman and photographer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17.
Besides his wife, Mr. Carmichael is survived by his daughter, Kim C. Cooper (Steve) of Gastonia, NC; sons, Bryan Carmichael (Kimberley) of Junction City, OR and Al Carmichael (Suzan) of Lugoff, SC; grandchildren, Claudia, Megan, Sarah, Joshua, David and Katie; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Autumn; sister, Lou LaBruzzo of Murrels Inlet, SC; and brother, Marsden Carmichael of Sevierville, TN.
Besides his parents, Mr. Carmichael was predeceased by his brothers, Wayne Carmichael and Alton Carmichael.
