Thelma J. Bishop, 96, formerly of Falls Mills, Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. While she lost this earthly battle, she won the ultimate victory through her faith in Jesus Christ. Thelma was an awesome mother and friend and will always be missed. Thelma was predeceased in death by her husband, Okey R. Bishop. Thelma was born in Wyoming County, WV to Mary Jane Pierce and was the youngest of nine children. Thelma was a member of Falls Mills Methodist Church for 56 years before moving to Lugoff, S.C., where she was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate Thelma’s life was held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Dudley Funeral Home in Bluefield, Va. with the Reverend Raymond Klaiber officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Memorial Park in Bluefield, Va.

Survivors are six children, Ruth Tuell (Bradley) of Welch, W.Va., Richard Bishop (Marie) of Troutville, Va., Roger Bishop (Hattie) of Goodview, Va., Sharon Weaver (Zenus) of Lugoff, S.C., Vickie Barlow (Jimmie) of Bluefield, W.Va., and Phillip Bishop of Vinton, Va.; grandchildren, Charles Tuell of Fairfax, Va., Ray Tuell and Tim Tuell of Welch, W.Va., Rick Bishop of Abbeville, Ga., Greg Bishop of Richmond, Va., Suzanne Blackburn, of Roanoke, Va., Michael Davidson of Falls Mills, Va., Frank Barlow of Petersburg, Va., Melissa Butt of Bluefield, W.Va., Steven Bishop of Forest, Va., Theresa and Leanne Weaver of Durham, N.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Thelma was predeceased in death by two granddaughters, Valerie Bishop and LaDonna Tuell.

Pallbearers serving were her grandsons. Thelma made her home in Lugoff, S.C. with her daughter, Sharon and husband, Zenus.
