Thomas Douglas Ancrum, 86, of Camden, SC, died Friday, March 20 2015, at Kershaw Health Hospital in Camden.
Born in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas Ancrum and Josephine Muessen Ancrum of Camden. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan Kuykendahl Ancrum. He is survived by his sister Louise Ancrum Steffens, also of Camden, and her sons Charles Diederich Steffens, John Christian Steffens, and Thomas Ancrum Steffens and their families.
Tom served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, attended the Army Leadership School, Army Engineers Technical School and also served in Korea.
He graduated from Duke University, with additional studies at the University of South Carolina School of Engineering. He was also a graduate of the New York Institute of Finance. He worked in finance in NY and as a commodities broker in New Orleans. As a supervisory construction engineer, he was involved commercial, industrial and institutional projects, including Dupont, Richland Memorial and Moncrief Hospitals, Williams Brice Stadium and other large projects throughout the southeast. In later years, he was a Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Camden.
He was a former director of the Kershaw County Historical Society and a member of Historic Camden, Kershaw County Library, Chamber of Commerce and Fine Arts Center.
The family is grateful for the many kindnesses extended to Tom by the staff at Pinedale Residential Center during his stay there.
Graveside services will be held in Quaker Cemetery, Camden, on Tuesday, March 24 at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of his sister at 4 Ancrum Road.
