Tommie Rye Downey Pylant

Tommie Rye Downey Pylant died January 25, 2015 after a short illness. She was 100 years old. Born on July 6, 1914 in Hohenwald, TN, she was the daughter of James R. and Ethel D. Downey. She was the secretary to the Headmaster at Camden Military Academy for many years. The Academy named a residence on the campus ‘Pylant House’ in honor of her service to the School. She was an active member of the McRae Road Church of Christ for over 50 years.

She is survived by her son, John W. Pylant, Jr. of Atlanta, Imogene Oakley, her sister, of Dickson, TN, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in celebration of Tommie’s life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Kornegay Funeral Home, 1112 Fair Street, Camden, SC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the McRae Road Church of Christ,1009 McRae Road, Camden, SC 29020.
