Funeral services with military honors to honor the life of Thomas D. “Tommy” Horton, 79, of Camden will be held Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Malvern Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Rev. Craig Thompson and Rev. Buster Morris will officiate.  The family receive friends Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.  Memorials may be made in Mr. Horton’s memory to Malvern Hill Baptist Church, 1514 Malvern Hill Drive, Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Horton died Friday, November 11, 2011.  Born in the Cassatt Community, he was the son of the late Thomas Roscoe Horton and Maud Dabney Horton.  He was a graduate of Midway High School in Cassatt and a graduate of the Nashville Auto Diesel College.  Mr. Horton was a United States Navy Veteran having served for six years. He was a member of the Camden Jaycees, Camden Optimist Club and the James Leroy Belk Post 17 of the American Legion.  Mr. Horton served as Kershaw County Coroner for 12 ½ years, after 22 years of service he retired from the Kershaw Country Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and after 25 years of service he retired from the Kershaw Country School District. Mr. Horton was an active member of Malvern Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earline Hall Horton; brothers, Harold E. Horton of Florence and Aubrey D. Horton of Mt. Holly, NC; half sister, Betty Jean Steger of Carrollton, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
