Funeral services to celebrate the life of William Henry "Bill" McAbee, 81, of Camden, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden, SC with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. William Henry "Bill" McAbee, husband of 58 years to Judith Layne McAbee died Saturday, July 20, 2013. He was born in Moore, SC, the son of the late Bennie Lee and Mary Louise Bagwell McAbee.
Bill was a US Navy veteran and a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a supervisor of the Embroidery Department at Skyline Manufacturing, president and founder of Jubilee Embroidery Co. in 1973, a former deacon of Roebuck Presbyterian Church and Rowan Presbyterian Church, president of Industrial Management Club, a member of Sertoma and former president of the Camden Country Club.
Bill loved sports and played baseball/softball for 6 decades. He lettered in baseball, basketball and football at Roebuck High School. Bill played baseball in the Navy and he actually played on both the Navy and Marine teams, as needed. He played fast-pitch softball for the Camden Colts and Carolina Suns. Bill coached the Girls Jubilee softball team for many years.
Bill was quite a golfer, he shot his age from age 70 on with the exception of the last year he played. He shot a 78 when he was 79. If there was a sporting event on TV, he was watching it. Bill loved to root for the Braves, Gamecocks and the Camden Bulldogs.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his daughters, Pamela M. McGreevy of Lugoff, SC, Lisa M. Woolard (David) of Camden, SC and Donna M. Branham (Jody) of Weddington, NC; grandchildren, William Gable McGreevy, Allison, Rebecca, Thomas Henry, Heather and Caroline Woolard, and Chase and Meredith Branham; sisters, Catherine Zimmerman of Spartanburg, SC and Rebecca Blick of Roebuck, SC; and brother Donald McAbee (Joan) of Roebuck, SC; and his "Goodest Dog", Bella.
Bill’s family would like to especially thank Tri County Hospice for their wonderful care and his special nurses, Sherry and Nora.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his granddaughter, Laura Jane Branham and his sister, Mary McAbee.
