Funeral services with Masonic Rites to celebrate the life of William Johnson “Bill” Haynes, Jr., 77, of Lugoff, SC will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Lugoff, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made in William’s memory to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 7 Medical Park Road, Columbia, SC 29203.
Mr. Haynes, husband of Brenda McCray Haynes for 55 years, died January 20, 2016. He was born in Mullins, SC, the son of the late William Johnson Haynes, Sr. and Beatrice Anderson Haynes. He was a retired Battalion fire chief for the City of Columbia. Bill served in the National Guard for 11 years. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge #29, a member of the American Legion Post 17, and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Haynes also drove for Greyhound and Trailways for many years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Haynes is survived by a daughter, Debra Duggan (Jim); sons, William J. “Johnny” Haynes, III (Tina) and Ronnie N. Haynes, all from Lugoff, SC; grandchildren, Melissa Haynes McMahon (Frank), Billy Haynes (Kari), Andrew Haynes (Nicole), Celia Duggan, Rebecca Duggan, Zackary Haynes, Brittney Haynes, Ethan Haynes, Stacey Knight, Lacey Banks and Joshua Hammonds; great-grandchildren, Kenny Ray Reep, Christianna Reep, Crystal Haynes and Elias Haynes; a brother, Paul R. Haynes (Faye) of Camden, SC; sisters, Barbara Marsh of Camden, SC, Doris Haynes, Nevada Bronson, Brenda Snell (Bob) and Judy Rabon, all of Lugoff, SC; and former daughters-in-law, Teresa Karr and Jodi Hammonds. He was also known as Uncle Bo to his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Nathan Haynes and granddaughter Crystal Moore.
