Funeral services for Windell Hazel "Butch" Rabon, Jr., 72, will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
Mr. Rabon passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Windell Hazel Rabon, Sr. and Ruby Roberts Kaminer. Mr. Rabon graduated from Camden High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a Sheriff Deputy under Sheriff Alan Sloan, Sheriff Hector DeBruhl, and also Sheriff Leon Lott. He retired from the Richland County Sheriffs Dept. as a Lieutenant. He was the 1979 Law Enforcement Officer of the year and received numerous additional ribbons and awards.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Judy Lynn Haynes Rabon; daughters, Kristin Roberts (Jamie) of Lugoff, Windy Dukes (Joseph) of Lugoff, Faith Rabon (Gregory) of Lugoff, and Misty Graham (Timothy) of Elgin; and 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, William Donald Rabon.
