Funeral services for Zaven Sarkis Touloukian, 86, of Camden, South Carolina will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Whitehead and Father Daniel Findikyan will officiate.
Zaven died Wednesday, February 22, 2012. He was born in Istanbul Turkey, the son of the late Sarkis and Zaruhi Touloukian. He graduated from Robert’s American College in Istanbul and attended graduate school in Lausanne, Switzerland and Bradford, England before coming to the United States and completing his Master’s degree in textile engineering at Georgia Tech. He worked for E.I. DuPont for 34 years in Tennessee, Argentina and Camden. After retirement he worked for International Executive Service Corps in Casablanca, Morocco and Citizens Democracy Corps in Tirgur Mures, Romania. Zaven served as a volunteer for the Service Corps of Retired Executives and was a long term Rotarian. He was a strong supporter of the Armenian Apostolic Church as well as the Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife Rachel. He was predeceased by his older brothers, Hagop and Yeram and his sister, Zabel.
Visitation will be held at Monday, February 27, 2012 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden SC from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flower donations can be made in his name to Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, 110C East DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.
