If you hear sirens on U.S. 1 Friday morning, feel free to join a group of special athletes enjoying a well-deserved moment of pride and honor. The sirens will come from an official police escort of athletes from the Kmart shopping center on West DeKalb Street through Camden and east Camden all the way to Camden Military Academy (CMA) for Kershaw County’s annual Special Olympics, said Billy Newman and Cleatus Ray, two of the event organizers/volunteers. “We just started the police escort last year,” Newman said.
