American Legion Auxiliary Post 17 installs new officers, helps provide scholarship money for student

The newly elected officers for the year July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012 were recently installed at Post 17 and the ceremony was conducted by Lousie Winesett, senior vice president of American Legion Auxiliary, Department of South Carolina. Officers installed include (from left) Rhunette Haywood, president; Susan Leitner, historian; Charlotte Bell, senior vice president; Melissa Osborne Rhame, treasurer; Cathryn Bell, junior vice president; Edith Moiser, sergeant at arms; and Carolyn Hamilton, secretary. Not pictured is Mandy Roger, chaplain.
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 17 participated in selecting and sponsoring five delegates from Kershaw County to attend Palmetto Girls State June 12-18. The tuition of each student was shared by the unit and American Legion Post 17 members. Students selected included Megan Leitner, representing Lugoff-Elgin High School; Sally Dunaway, representing Camden High School (CHS); Emily Deal representing CHS; Bradley Taylor Vincent representing North Central High School (NCHS); and Samantha Lynn Woods, representing NCHS. Palmetto Girls State is a strenuous week for students involved.
