Auditions for an exciting Teen Production at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) are fast approaching. Fame, Jr., a collaboration with the FAC and Columbia Children’s Theatre will be held Sunday, Sept. 9 and Monday, Sept. 10 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC starting at 6 p.m. Fame, Jr. will be directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children’s Theatre (CCT.) The auditions are open to 6th graders through age 18. There is no audition fee.

After the success of last year’s Teen Production, Zombie Prom, CCT and the FAC have teamed up again to reach out to the teen crowd.

"There was great support from the community last year, and we are excited to be able to bring another great Teen Production to the season," said Kristin Cobb, executive director of the FAC

One of the missions of CCT is to produce quality educational theatre programming. This partnership with the FAC helps them accomplish this mission. In addition the Camden Community Theatre, an affiliate group of the FAC will assist with the production.

Fame, Jr. is based on the book by José Fernandez. The play was conceived and developed by David De Silva with music by Steve Margoshes and lyrics by Jacques Levy. Set during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School of the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), Fame, Jr. is the bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today. It is an ideal musical for young performers today.

If you have a teen that has always wanted to be in a play, or be a part of a live theatre production, now is their chance.

There is no need to prepare anything for the audition. Actors will be given short lines from the script, and will be taught a simple song from the play to sing a cappella.

The production will be Nov. 8-11 in the Wood Auditorium.
