The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) announces Karen Mills and several other exciting and hilarious comediennes to perform their comedy show, Hen Party, Friday in the Wood Auditorium. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour along with light hors d’ouevres and a cash bar, followed by an 8 p.m. performance. Tickets are $20 for adults; and $18 for students, seniors and military.
Mills has often been compared to Ellen Degeneres and Jerry Seinfeld because she finds the funny in everyday life. That didn’t change when she was diagnosed with cancer. "When the surgeons cut me open, my right ovary popped out the size of a cantaloupe, my left ovary the size of a grapefruit. I was a walking produce stand," she said. "Turns out, my muffin top was a fruit salad." Mills was determined to take on the disease with hope and humor. Her mission is to inspire people to love, laugh and to approach everything in life with a positive attitude.
Mills brings that same dynamic energy to her comedy. She has been a nationally touring comedian for 20 years and can be heard regularly on Sirius/XM Laugh USA and she just recorded a one hour special for Blue Collar Radio. She finds the funny in everyday life and strikes a nerve with the other 77 million baby boomers who are struggling with hot flashes, memory loss and the ever changing world of technology. Mills can inspire, energize and bring any crowd together through the joy of laughter.
Janet Williams has performed all over the world. In addition to comedy clubs and theaters, she has done several USO tours including Japan, Korea, Guam and Germany. She has appeared on Black Entertainment Television (BET)’s Comic View as well as John Boy and Billy and Rick and Bubba.
Mia Jackson has appeared on the Oxygen Network and The Learning Channels’s Wild Weddings. She was also a writer on BET/Centric’s re-launch of the Soul Train Awards. In 2012, she was a finalist at the Laughing Skull Festival and recently taped a spot on NickMom’s Night Out.
Sheri Taylor comes from a background in theater, radio, voice work and improvisational comedy. She spends her weekdays as part of the "Love in the Morning" radio show. Also a stand-up comedian, she has worked with such acts as James Gregory and Jimmy Walker.
