March is Youth Arts Month and the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County is gearing up for a great month of celebrating youth arts. The month’s events begin with the opening of the Youth Arts Month exhibition in the Bassett Gallery from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. Some of the best student artwork will be on display through April 9. Art teachers from grades K-12 have chosen the top of their students’ work to be on exhibition. This work will be judged again at the Center and the best of each grade level will go on to be a part of the FAC’s traveling Youth Arts display. This display travels throughout Kershaw County in various businesses before landing at our State’s Capital in Columbia. The exhibition is sponsored by the Target Corporation and is an annual partnership with the Kershaw County School District.

Following the exhibition opening will be this year’s Youth Arts Play The Wizard of Oz as it hits the Wood Auditorium stage for a four-day run, March 12-15 with evening performances Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee. The Wizard of Oz is adapted and directed by Columbia Children’s Theatre’s (CCT) artistic director and Camden native, Jerry Stevenson. FAC Director of Education and Theatre Jami Steele acts as assistant director. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and military. The Wizard of Oz is sponsored by Modern Turf as well as the Target Corporation.
