Austin Jenkins to lead Historic Camden nature walk

Austin Jenkins, a popular local professional Naturalist, will conduct a nature walk at Historic Camden on April 23. Participation is free.

Recognized as the center for Camden’s historic activities, Historic Camden’s connection to the natural world is often overlooked, according to Jenkins. Although located very near the center of the city of Camden, Historic Camden is fortunate to have a campus of more than 100 acres composed of distinctly different habitats and environments. It contains expanses of open fields, mixed hardwood and conifer forests as well as a magnificent old growth swamp and Nature Trail bordering on beautiful black-water Pine Tree Creek, Jenkins noted. These diverse areas are home to many species of birds, trees, insects, wild flowers and shrubs.

Participants can meet at the main office at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. Be prepared to walk 1-1.5 miles as Jenkins shares his knowledge about the natural world. Be sure to wear comfortable attire and walking shoes. Duration is expected to be about one to two hours.
