For the ninth consecutive year the Bethune Garden Club will host the Bethune Memorial Tree and Candle Lighting Ceremony. The Ceremony will take place on at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, November 29 at the Bethune Memorial Park. The event commemorates the life of loved ones and officially begins the Bethune celebration of Christmas.

Bethune Mayor Charles McCoy will give the welcome; local pastors and choirs will provide Christmas musical selections. Refreshments, Christmas music and fellowship will follow at the Bethune Woman’s Club.

The first ceremony, held in 2006, was held on a street corner next to the railroad track in Bethune. Only about 20-25 people were in attendance the first year. The service has since grown to over 150 attendees and is a highlight of the Bethune celebration of Christmas, according to event organizers.
