The annual Brevard Music Scholarship Competition was hosted on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. This year’s winners are Benjamin Watts, a piano student of Gale Lipps, winner of the Junior Scholarship; Megan Cummings, a piano student of Judy Patrick, winner of the Senior/Fran Shealy Scholarship; and Megan Chapman, a band student of Glenn Price at Lugoff-Elgin High School and an oboe student of Petrea Warneck, winner of the Margaret Beckley Upton Scholarship to Brevard Music Camp. Awards included the Junior Scholarship ($100) and the Senior/Fran Shealy Scholarship ($400) both intended for local private study, and the Margaret Beckley Upton Brevard Scholarship for six weeks study at Brevard Summer Music Camp in Brevard, NC. The Brevard Scholarship honors the memory of Sibby Wood’s mother and is funded by the Upton Foundation.The Brevard Music Scholarship Competition is co-sponsored by the Camden Music Association and the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County
