Ceremony honors Confederate soldiers

Joseph B. Kershaw Camp No. 82 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and John D. Kennedy Chapter No. 308 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held a ceremony to honor all Confederate soldiers May 14 at the Unknown Soldiers’ plot in Camden’s Quaker Cemetery. Camp No. 82 Commander Larry Graham and Chapter No. 308 President Susan Baskin led the program “Lest They Be Forgotten. Guerry Felder, Camp No. 82 Historian, who has undertaken extensive research of the lives of Confederate soldiers, served as special guest speaker.

More than 200 soldiers are interred in Quaker Cemetery. Participants in the May 14 ceremony placed flags at each marked grave and an honorary wreath, followed by the playing of Taps.
