Disney’s The Lion King JR. coming to FAC Aug. 2-4
Lion King Jr

Disney’s The Lion King JR. will play at The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County on August 2-4 at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Lion King JR. is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film. The Sam Wright Scholarship Fund cast contains approximately 75 students led by director Jami Steele. Sam Wright is an Oscar-winning performer from Camden, and is widely known for his role as Mufasa in the very first Broadway production of The Lion King.

The Lion King JR. tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands, Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets may be purchased at the FAC box office located at 810 Lyttleton St. in Camden, by phone at (803) 425-7676, or online at www.fineartscenter.org.

The cast for The Lion King JR. has been a part of a summer Theatre Intensive at the Fine Arts Center, sponsored by the Sam Wright Scholarship Fund. Students were required to audition to be a part of this intensive and have worked diligently on perfecting their own production of this exceptional play. The FAC will bring the African plains to life on its very own stage -- do not miss the chance to see what these talented kids from all across Kershaw County have created.
