In celebration of America’s Independence, Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site and members of the Camden Community Concert Band (CCCB) will host the fourth annual Patriots, Picnic & Pops on Sunday, June 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. The free, family event will be held in the Kershaw-Cornwallis House garden.
At this year’s event, the Historic Camden Cannon Crew will exhibit and fire grasshopper cannons. The event will also feature English Country Dancers, old-fashioned kids games, and family picnics (also concessions for sale), as well as a special patriotic program honoring Revolutionary War soldiers from the Camden district. At 7 p.m., the Camden Community Concert Band will let loose a rousing concert of patriotic songs and American standards.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to gather together as a community to celebrate and commemorate the efforts that early Camden citizens made for our country’s independence,” Historic Camden Executive Director Halie Brazier said. “We know visitors will have a blast with our grasshopper cannons and the concert band!”
The Kershaw-Cornwallis House, 222 Broad St., at the top of the hill, will open at 5 p.m. for picnickers. The program begins at 6 p.m., and the CCCB will start at 7 p.m. The event will be cancelled if there is rain. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, picnic supplies, sunscreen, and bug spray. Concessions will be available.
