The Upton Trio will join the Price House Commission on Feb. 2 to bring an evening of classical and gospel music to the Camden community
The purpose of the Upton Trio, created in 1989 by Sylvia Upton Wood, is to provide concerts to the "artistically underserved" throughout Kershaw County.
The Price House Commission’s mission is to promote, research, preserve, interpret and disseminate information about African-American life, history and culture to Camden and the Kershaw County community.
Partnering with the Upton Trio on Feb. 2 will be vocal talent from local gospel singers Brook Grant, Dionne Hough, Fredosia Peoples, Sam Dennis, Margene Clinton, Gracie Adamson, Calvin Turner and Shirley Martin.
The singers will perform spirituals during the concert.
The introductory piece will be Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A minor which will proceed into the first spiritual for the evening, "He died on Calvary."
A pre-concert will be held in the Gallery at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County at 5:30 on Feb. 2. Light refreshments will be served.
