We are two months into the new semester and things are running very smoothly. Everybody is already comfortable and encouraging each other to do their best. A new program called “Learning Lab” has been established and been put to good use. This program allows students to volunteer to help other students that are struggling in their core classes. This helps students better understand lessons while also making new friends in the process.
Spring sports practices and games are underway and it looks like North Central is going to be on top this year. The boys’ soccer team has kicked off its inaugural season with an 8-0 win over Cheraw. Unfortunately, the girls’ soccer team lost in penalty kicks against Richland Northeast.
The varsity softball team planned to begin its season with an invitational tournament on February 23, but it was rained out, and will take place at a later time. However, the official varsity and junior varsity softball seasons started on March 5 with an away game against our rival, Andrew Jackson.
The varsity baseball team started its season in the Camden Jamboree with a 2-0 win over Ridgeview High School. The Junior Varsity baseball team began their “Swing Away Preseason Tournament” sponsored by The Batter’s Box of Camden. The JV team is currently 3-0 and is projected to stay on top. Varsity officially started its season against Andrew Jackson on March 5, and JV also played Andrew Jackson on March 4.
While spring sports are beginning, wrestling just wrapped up with individual state matches. Hunter and Kaleb Haven placed first, Kyle Lesso and Dalton Smith came in second, Jordan Small in third, Cameron Hoffman and Zach Roberts in fourth, and Wade Bowers and Jack Tilton in fifth.
This year, our sports teams have had a lot of success, and a few have made it very far in playoffs. As a school full of pride, we are very excited to finish out the year strong, and we know that we always have the community around us at every game to support us.
The school year is slowly coming to an end, but North Central isn’t slowing down. Everyone is still working hard and supporting our Knight athletics. Spring playoffs, here we come!
