Historic Camden to host annual Battle of Camden Remembrance Day Saturday

If you love “to see the flaming forge, and hear the bellows roar,” plan to visit the Blacksmith Shed located on the lower grounds of Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the museum’s annual Battle of Camden Remembrance Day on Saturday. While there won’t be poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s immortalized spreading chestnut tree to view, there will be lots of “village smithies” from the Philip Simmons Artist-Blacksmith Guild of South Carolina swinging their heavy sledges. Passionate to the core about their craft, the blacksmiths enjoy demonstrating their skills and encouraging aficionados of all ages to participate and take up the hobby.
