Historic Camden to host Market Day May 14

Ever wonder why Camden’s Market Street is so named? It because the town’s marketplace before 1812 was located at the northwest corner of Bull and Market streets, today the outdoor basketball court across from Zemp Stadium. Records show no sales were permitted at the market until the bell rang and that our forefathers could purchase such items as “Groceries, and Cloths, Bow Strings ... also Fresh Garden Seed from the North.”
