Residents of the McCoy Memorial Nursing Center in Bishopville received a surprise when members of the Kershaw County 4-H Rabbit Club visited with rabbits for them to meet and pet. Kat Ellig, the club president, brought her mixed breed rabbit. Club Secretary Isabella Birket brought a Lop rabbit. Club Historian Ishiyo Dorrill brought a Jersey Wooly rabbit, while her sister Omari brought a Mini Rex rabbit. Club members were invited to the nursing home by Melissa Brundage, the adult volunteer who coordinates the Lee County Leapin’ Lizards 4-H Club and visits the nursing home monthly with her rooster, Steve. The girls held the rabbits in towels to prevent scratches and bathroom accidents. During the 45 minute visit, they walked around the club’s meeting room, answered questions about their rabbits, and offered an audience of about 25 residents the chance to pet the rabbits. Most people seemed happy to meet the additional guests. Article written by 4-H Rabbit Club Historian Ishiyo Dorrill.
