This summer, the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County is excited to bring Disney’s The Lion King Jr. to Camden. This incredible youth production will be the first-ever production sponsored by the Sam Wright Scholarship Fund.
Sam Wright is an actor and singer from Camden. He is best known as the voice of Sebastian in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, for which he provided the main vocals to “Under the Sea.” Wright also played the part of Mufasa in the original cast of The Lion King on Broadway. Through the funding in his name, kids from Kershaw County will be able to participate in a two-week-long “Theatre Intensive,” which will wrap with full productions of the play.
Disney’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world. The African savannah will come to life on the Wood Auditorium stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle ... and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.
The Theatre Intensive will be held Monday through Friday, July 15-31. Rising 2nd and -3rd graders will participate from 9 a.m. to noon, and rising 4th through 10th graders will participate from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Performances will take place Aug. 2-4 at the FAC.
