Local 4-H members place at state hore show

Amelia Lee (center), of the Kershaw County 4-H’s Horse and Palmetto Equestrian clubs, took 1st Place in the Jr. Western Horsemanship competition during the 4-H State Horse Show in Pendleton, June 19-22. Members of Kershaw County 4-H Horse and 4-H Palmetto Equestrian clubs represented the county well at the S.C. State 4-H Horse Show, June 19-22 at the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton. The show allowed 4-H members from across the state to showcase the knowledge they have gained during the past year during their individual club meetings and practices.

The show included saddle-type showmanship, western showmanship, a speed division, creative arts contest and more.

“Special thanks to volunteer club leaders Rebecca Hudson and Monique Lee for their dedication throughout the show,” club organizers said.

Local 4-H club members who won awards include:

Kristen Kahkola - Champion of Dressage; 1st, Long Stirrup Over Fences; 1st, Long Stirrup Equitation Over Fences; 4th, Equitation; and 10th, Showmanship

Kaela Chapman - 1st, Sr. Equitation; 1st, Creative Arts; 4th, Long Stirrup Over Fences; and 4th Long Stirrup Equitation Over Fences

Addison Lee - 1st Place, Jr. Western Reserve High Point Rider; 1st Place, Woodworking; and 2nd Place, Jr. Western Horsemanship

Grace Rabon - 1st Place Jr.. Western High Point Rider; and 3rd, Jr. Western Horsemanship

Amelia Lee - 1st Place, Jr. Western Horsemanship; and 2nd Place, Craft

Leila Jackson - 2nd, Jr. Drawing; 3rd, Jr. Craft; and 4th, Jr. Painting

Kaylee Hook - 6th, Jr. Western Horsemanship

Kendall Burton - 1st Place, Craft

Summer Rabon, Grace Rabon, Jerica Bozio, Kaylee Hook, Taylor McIntosh, Addison Lee and Amelia Lee participated as members of the 4-H Palmetto Equestrian Club. All seven of them qualified for the Southern Regional Finals.
