Lugoff-Elgin High School senior is 2016 BGCM Youth of the Year

Tyler Maple, a senior at Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) is the 2016 Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands (BGCM) Youth of the Year.

Tyler plans to attend the University of South Caorlina in the fall to study physical therapy. He currently works with Lugoff-Elgin Middle School’s BGCM program as a program aid. Tyler started his journey with BGCM as a junior counselr for two summers at the Blaney Elementary School BGCM site.

Tyler was selected from many outstanding young people to be the spokesperson for the BGCM. Judges they selected Tyler for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community. As the 2016 Youth of the Year, Tyler will receive a $2,500 college scholarship.

Tyler will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members from across the state for the chance to become South Carolina Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year and the chance to earn more scholarships.

L-EHS BCGM staff and others celebrated with Tyler in the school’s cafeteria on Monday.
